IN THREE DIMENSIONS!

The theatre gets his force from the fragile but real presence of the actor, from the engagement of men and women, who give the best of themselves, live on scene, night after night. We were glad to open the new season reaffirming the singularity of this art – in 3D – that is our passion: lively, sensible and close. This said, there are other dimensions to deplore in order to demonstrate the work of our house, to give sense to our project. If we had to resume in three senses, equally fundamental, we would say: fidelity, openness and brilliance.

Our loyalty is reflected in this new season so strongly imbued with the presence of our associated artists. The mix of artists confirms both our enthusiasm for the Belgian talents as for the international theatre scenery. We don’t believe that introversion and protectionism will help our artist grow. We prefer to exchange, to be open and to mix cultures. That is why we build bridges between the French and the Flemish Community, through the label Toernee General, collaboration with the KVS. Furthermore we are presenting with the Theater Antigone from Kortrijk Baal, a performance with Dutch and French speaking actors. Through exchange and collaboration we create co-productions such as the three productions with La Monnaie/De Munt, our own Festival des Libertés and the renewed partnership with Europalia this year exploring many aspects of the Brazilian culture.

The open spirit makes our house full of dynamics, works inspiring for the artists and is perfectly captured by one of our new adventures: Villes en scène|Cities on Stage. With the support of the European Commission we will collaborate over the next five years with five other European theatres (Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe/Paris, Teatro Stabile/Napoli, Teatrul National Radu Stanca/Sibiu, Teatro de La Abadia/Madrid, Folkteatern/Göteborg), trying to capture the challenges faced by our contemporary cities. This artistic and citizen project created by Fabrice Murgia invites you to be part of the project, after all – from the artist’s point of view – the heart of theatre is its audience giving meaning to the artist’s work.
