Faust is more than a stage play. With this evocative scenery and lights, the fireworks, the provocative costumes whether elegant or burlesque and also with the rock music he leads us to an indefinite world, between earth and hell. Inspired by remarkable chapters in Goethe’s novel – Faust’s pact with the devil, the fascination he held for Marguerite, the night of Walpurgis…, this modern version of Faust has marked the contemporary theatre in Romania. The director, Silviu Purcărete, is a welcome guest in the most prestigious theatres in Europe. This playwright wanted to create a play as original and sensorial as the feeling of love, pain or death; in other words so intense that the spectators would sell their souls to the devil in order to savour it forever.
