Festival des Libertés
The autumn rendezvous for lovers of liberty and defenders of human rights, the Festival des Libertés returns to the Théâtre National from 18 to 27 October with its rich and varied programme of documentaries, debates, shows, exhibitions and concerts....
... All forms of expression which are tuned in to their times, committed to a critical approach, inspired to promote a fairer world and all brought together in a convivial and festive atmosphere, for which the Festival is also famous.
The ante-crisis
From all points of view, our world is in crisis. The first reflex in a crisis is to panic, not to know where to turn, and to tense up. The first rule of politics in a time of crisis is to call for people to stand together and to tighten their belts in order to save the system. So the crisis becomes the means to perpetuate and to reinforce what created the crisis …
The Festival des Libertés 2012 will invite citizens to see in the multiplicity of crises, not paralysing and blinding catastrophes, but opportunities to sharpen criticism, to realise that our economic, political, social and cultural systems are running out of steam and thus to open the field of what is possible to other ways of seeing or doing things, to express freedoms, solidarities and equality. An invitation to take the risk of the new, the complex and the uncertain in order to find a way out of dead-ends, tensions and fallbacks.
- half a dozen works for the stage, from personal narratives to complete shows, which should question our certainties and shake up our fears;
- about thirty international documentaries which reflect the state of a planet in crisis and the determination of those who are trying to give it a future;
- fifteen or so concerts in different styles to vibrate or dance to positive energies;
- and every day, after a film, after a show or with people who will sharpen our critical senses, meetings and debates to make and remake the world.
As a foretaste, some shows have already been revealed to Théâtre National subscribers.
