In this new production, designed for a French-speaking audience, we find Ascanio Celestini (with live translation provided by Patrick Bebi) accompanied for the first time by a French-speaking actress, Violette Pallaro, and an accordionist.

With his inimitable use of language, the unpredictable rhythm of his poetry, his sharp wit (which is both tender and cruel), his civic and political engagement and his sense of solidarity with the “little guys”, Dario Fo’s spiritual heir is back with a piece of theatrical narrative, which is very much his forte.

A mixture of tragic and comic, laughter and tears, literary flourishes and implacable rhetoric pitches the viewer, time and time again, into a world beset by war and political disenchantment, exposing social injustice along the way, and putting human beings back at the heart of all discourse.

Celestini, who is the son of a carpenter and a hairdresser with a passion for dancing, and is half cheeky imp and half metaphysical clown, as well as being a great writer with plenty to say, leads us once more into a maelstrom of words, styles and breath-taking performances.
