Concert Ars Musica
Friedrich Gulda, Benjamin Glorieux, Chris Corsano, Orkest Academie Sint-Niklaas
Cellist always on the lookout for new sounds, he is frequently invited to play with the greatest musical ensembles. Benjamin Glorieux is also a talented concertist with a wide repertoire for whom contemporary music is essential and inseparable from his approach. He had collaborated with the composers Heinz Holliger, Martin Matalon and Sebastian Rivas among others.
Within the framework of the Ars Musica Festival he will be accompanied by the Ensemble de l’Academie de Saint-Nicolas under the direction of Pieter Matthynssens, he will interpret Friedrich Gulda’s most famous work. This Viennese piano virtuoso who died in 2000 was famous for his straightforward and provocative personality. He was also well known for surprising his audiences by inserting jazz pieces in the middle of classical concerts and mixing genres with Joe Zawinul, the founder of the mythical fusion group Weather Report. With this Concerto for Cello and Wind Orchestra composed in 1980, Benjamin Glorieux transcends and shares all the flamboyance of the composer in a concert that also borrows from the folk repertoire, big band and Austrian classicism.
