Skatepark

Dance
Skateboarding was born in Los Angeles on a day when the waves were so weak that surfers were forced to ride the streets... Or so legend has it.

In Skatepark, Danish dancer and choreographer Mette Ingvartsen questions contemporary dance as a social phenomenon. For her, movement cannot be disconnected from the world in which we live. With this in mind, she wanted to collaborate with performers who weren’t necessarily trained as dancers but who nevertheless execute virtuoso movements intensively. She gives skateboarding the status of an urban choreography aimed at reappropriating the public space.

Together with a group of skateboarders and dancers of all generations, the choreographer explores the speed and energy of movement on wheels – a physical memory from her own youth. In a breathtaking set with powerful yet subtle lighting, spectators will take great pleasure in watching these performers execute a range of fluid and vertiginous movements – like fast-moving tracking shots of snippets of life. The stuff of dreams.
