Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles

A territory in constant redefinition

The richness of a project lies in its multiplicity, in repeated encounters, like a dialogue that grows richer with each phrase. Artists, partners and audiences are all interlocutors with whom the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles establishes connections and gives substance to a multidisciplinary and unifying project. A project rooted in Brussels, in constant contact with Wallonia and Belgium, and turned towards the world.

Sharing our stages and our programme with other houses is a matter of course. Creating together (with La Monnaie, Kaaitheater, Kunstenfestivaldesarts, Detours Festival); expanding elsewhere (Halles de Schaerbeek, Théâtre de la Vie, Théâtre Les Tanneurs, cinema Palace, Centre culturel Bruegel); sharing a programme (Troika with KVS and La Monnaie); coming together to support shows and thereby enable them to find their audiences (Kaaitheater, Charleroi danse and Réseau Danse Wallon, Théâtre des Martyrs, Théâtre de Poche, Varia – Théâtre & Studio); or simply serving as a host (Midis poésie, Bruxelles Laïque and Festival des Libertés, CTEJ and Noël au théâtre). For the Théâtre National, this is a way of giving concrete expression to its desire to help reshape the cultural landscape.

A theatre at the university, a university at the theatre

When they signed a framework agreement in 2023, the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles and the Université libre de Bruxelles were strengthening their partnership at both the local and national level. As part of their respective missions, they jointly implement innovative projects aimed at the student community. Their objectives? To stimulate meetings between the University and artistic creators in new cultural areas that are open to the city. Also, to play an active part in the collective drive to democratize culture. It is also a way of affirming that artistic practices and culture can help to reduce inequalities while promoting the success and emancipation of each individual in their personal, professional and/or research projects.
