Der Schauspieldirektor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Competing singers, big egos and hectic preparations: it’s safe to say Mozart drew from his own experience when writing Der Schauspieldirektor in 1786. This “comedy with music”, written about the same time as Le nozze di Figaro, pokes fun at the world of opera in which he worked.

In this new production, Music Director Alain Altinoglu leads a cast of Mozart specialists through the sparkling light-footedness of this funny and inventive score, while the storyline and many dialogues get a surprisingly contemporary twist.

Any resemblance to the current opera scene is purely coincidental.
