Jours de fête
→ Bertrix
This year, the Théâtre National Wallonie-Bruxelles and the Centre culturel de Bertrix (Province of Luxembourg) are going to open the season together – before Week-end ouvert in Brussels – through a trans-local context, new relationships, other circulations of Walloon, Brussels and international artists, as well as various artistic, popular and festive forms. Where play and experimentation have their role to play. A way of (re-)territorializing, of regaining strength in the ‘delicate art of fermentation’ from the rural peri-urban space. And in doing so to affirm that Wallonia and Brussels is ‘here’, respectful of biodiversity and landscapes.
If the collective, artistic excellence, the ethics of responsibility, a critical mind and cultural decentralization are the fertile ground and the very condition of the Théâtre National, it is not an impregnable fortress. It takes a stand against homogenizing season openings and exclusive territorializations. In the face of ongoing social and political transformations, reflecting on our ways of living with our bodies and through the theatre implies putting the question to other audiences, other places of anchorage and cross-fertilization of lives than the theatre itself.
In other words, it is by engaging in a policy of friendship between the Brussels and Walloon houses on issues of eco-responsibility, solidarity and audience relations that it is possible to explore and celebrate new hospitalities, alternative fluidities and sensitivities, to create lasting bonds and to give theatre another meaning. To play a positive and beneficial role in nourishing the ‘culture of life’.
Looking forward – to the future, to joyful, festive and territorial complicities.
