I Silenti
Lisaboa Houbrechts, Fabrizio Cassol
The voices of soprano Claron McFadden, mezzo-soprano Nicola Wemyss and Argentine singer Jonatan Alvarado intertwine with virtuoso violinist and gypsy singer Tcha Limberger. Opera, concert, dance, theatre – it’s a completely hybrid form of production presented by the composer and saxophonist Fabrizio Cassol and the Ghent-based director Lisaboa Houbrechts.
Constructed from Monteverdi’s madrigals – pieces stemming from a popular polyphonic tradition – the show offers an evocation focused on love, separation and confrontation. Looking at the genocide of the Roma during World War II, a “forgotten holocaust”, I Silenti speaks of those who have been silenced. Although blind, Tcha Limberger, at the centre of the performance, delivers through his voice a unique vision of the world. He shares his universe with musicians, singers, as well as the Indian dancer Shantala Shivalingappa. From the extreme fragility of this cry springs the power of emotions and the poetry of a recomposed story.
