La Cité des dames is a participatory artistic project for homeless women in Brussels initiated by Marie Avril and carried out with Lénaïc Brulé. From September to December 2022, the two directors, with the help of five organizations working in the field (L'Ilot, Douche Flux, Diogènes, Hobo and Samu Social), enabled a group of women in a situation of homelessness or great precarity to follow a theater workshop which resulted in this show.
Collective exploration, made up of improvisations, games, exchanges, brought out the words they chose to share with the public: their life stories, the switch to homelessness, fear, harassment, the arrival in the shelters, but also their hopes and dreams.
This project aims to put these women, without distinction of age, origin, culture or faith, back at the heart of ordinary people's concerns, and thus to allow them to regain some of their self-esteem.
