Transformative space: the artist plays with the audience on stage, changing skin, unfolding. Dressed in coloured layers, or entirely nude, balancing on a trapeze, or immersed among a variety of plastic materials.
With Ostentation, Sophia Rodriguez, an artist originally from Venezuela, now based in Belgium, seeks out the image, in order to better deconstruct it. In this impactful solo performance, already acclaimed at atelier 210, she digs into intimacy, overturns the obvious, unpeels her relationship with the body and with sexuality. How to see oneself in a world where capitalism shapes desire and dictates form? From her experience of the feminine, leafing through sometimes painful memories of abuse, she studies the ever-increasing demands of capitalism, aesthetic norms, injunctions to reshape anatomies.
A luminous, raw, feminist appeal.
