Israel & Mohamed
Mohamed El Khatib
Israel Galván
At first sight, nothing seemed to predestine Mohamed El Khatib and Israel Galván to be sharing the stage. But this is not the first time the dancer has faced artists coming from other horizons – we might recall RI TE, his celebrated duo from last year with Marlene Monteiro Freitas. As for Mohamed El Khatib, this is not his first outstanding project either. He has already presented La Vie secrète des vieux and Stadium at the Théâtre National. Works that revisit reality from unexpected angles. He also supported the Maison Gertrude project, an arts centre established in a rest home.
On the stage, the power of flamenco is in dialogue with a personal script. Both agree in penetrating a persona and universal subject: the difficulty of appearing before one's parents as one really is. Despite their artistic freedom, and their recognition, they continue to be silent about certain aspects of their lives to those who saw them grow up. Finding common aspects in their parallel journeys, they disclose the unspoken, between public frankness and family silences. Through re-visited memories, they question in a humorous way the place of parents in an artist's career.
