A monument to song, a key choreography, an emerging talent. The dance captures the intensity of Jacques Brel, giving it a new breadth.
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Solal Mariotte are here exploring the potential for the link between dance and song. This time, they are tackling a legend, turning their attention to the world of an artist necessarily discovered in different ways: for one, a familiar presence throughout life, for the other, a more recent revelation via YouTube. The piece creates a dialogue with the singer's repertoire – his crafted lyrics, incomparable presence, lived interpretation - and two unusual choreographic approaches. On the one hand, the precision and geometric complexity of Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, and on the other, the immediate, grounded energy of Solal Mariotte, trained in breakdance and contemporary dance.
This encounter, between a timeless work and two artists with distinct languages, promises to be fascinating. to be fascinating. How is this heritage being read? How can dance today incarnate the incandescence of Brel? BREL seeks to give a new shape to the power of this repertoire.
