Jouer sa vie
Vincent Hennebicq
What if we allow chance to dictate all our decisions? One evening, Luke decides to leave all his choices in life to a simple roll of the dice. The golden rule: always obey the result. Little by little, the game becomes a dizzying whirl, overturning all his landmarks and questioning his boundaries. How far are we prepared to go? To chaos? To complete loss of control? This is the whole issue at stake in the cult novel The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart, the starting point for Vincent Hennebicq’s show.
An immersive device allows each member of the audience to play an active part in the development of the story. Using interactive units, and with dice available to hand, the audience can propel the story forward in real time, driving into a kaleidoscopic narrative, studded with personal testimonies and reflections. Every performance is a unique experience, a leap into the unknown, carried along by the bewitching compositions of Antoine Flipo.
What remains of our identity when it is reduced to a gaming experience? Is it really possible to break free of rules and taboos? Through this radical experiment, Vincent Hennebicq crushes our certainties, allowing us to glimpse multiple scenarios. Dare to let go, branch out, be guided towards the unthinkable: can the dice reveal us to ourselves?
