Irresistible Revolution
Ayelen Parolin
With Irresistible Revolution, Ayelen Parolin takes over the large Théâtre National stage for her first creation here, after having previously presented more intimate pieces – Simple, Zonder and Weg – in previous seasons. As associate artist this year, for this occasion she is orchestrating a more extensive piece for twelve dancers.
Relying on the exuberance of the Buenos Aires carnival and the corso – the festive Latin American parade – Ayelen Parolin shapes music such as the murga and the cumbia to imagine a whirlwind of untameable movements. Irresistible Revolution draws pleasure from the activism dear to the writer Adrienne Maree Brown, and the contagious vitality of collective struggle. The bodies tangle, overflow from the frame, allow themselves to be carried along in an energetic, organic chaos. As always with Ayelen Parolin, game is an essential driver, a creative force which makes the unpredictable possible. The rhythmic musical composition of Benoist Bouvot amplifies this effervescence, while Alexandra Sebbag fashions costumes that closely match the group's dynamics. Finally, Olivier Hespel, a longstanding confederate, infuses a drama ready to be reinvented to support an expression of joyful resistance, carried along by utopia.
