Les Forteresses

Gurshad Shaheman

Gurshad Shaheman welcomes us, just as one would welcome guests into one’s own home, for an evening of life stories that is deeply moving and full of insight.

After Pourama Pourama, in which he told his own story, French-Iranian director Gurshad Shaheman lets the women of his family speak out. In a setting reminiscent of a café in Tehran on a beautiful evening, he invites his mother and two aunts onto the stage, while three actresses give voice to their memories. All three lived through the 1979 Revolution and the war. In the 1990s one moved to France, another to Germany, while the third chose to remain in Iran.

Gurshad Shaheman weaves the confessions drawn from their life stories into a poignant text evoking what unites these women and what separates them. Their personal stories against the backdrop of history and its tragic upheavals. A family saga that unfolds in a welcoming and caring theatre, where words are used to convey tears, memory and, above all, courage.
