Africa is/in the Future

The festival continues its vital work of highlighting Black and Afro-descendant artistic initiatives in Brussels.

Over more than a decade, Africa is/in the Future has established itself as a space for artistic and festive convergence. A multidisciplinary festival, now organized by La Bellone, which no longer merely curates programmes but encourages dialogue between practices from different contexts. Open to all, it nevertheless extends an explicit invitation to Black and Afro-descendant people, originating from the African continent and the diasporas.

For this 11th edition, the festival underlines the need for constant, collaborative and complex redefinition as a prerequisite for a truly shared future.

At the Théâtre National, a discussion explore these fascinating ideas in greater depth. Four artists, invited by Marie Umuhoza, the festival’s programmer, share fragments of their research and works in progress. The conversation continues with a discussion between Sékou Séméga, artist and programmer at La Bellone, and the guest artists.
