In 1983, Elizabeth Bouvia, a disabled woman, asks for the right to die, sparking a nationwide debate in the United States. Decades later, filmmaker Reid Davenport investigates what became of her and examines the failings of a system in which ableism, public policy and institutional shortcomings can make death seem like the only way out. Through his investigation, the film questions the freedom to choose between life and death.
