Theatre – Performance

Since 2016, Michael Disanka and Christiana Tabaro have modelled the fabric of their shared and personal memory, through the work of their d'Art-d’Art collective. Inspired by life in their home towns, from Mbanza Ngungu and Bukavu to Kinshasa, they have collected together materials formed of stories, memories and music, giving a picture of the Congo from yesterday and today.

Géométrie de vies thus continues the work begun with Sept mouvements Congo. In this beautiful offering, unveiled at the KVS a few years ago, Michael Disanka and Christiana Tabaro construct a map of stand-out episodes from the history of the DR of Congo, taking a documentary and dramaturgical approach.

On the stage stands an imaginary wall, a symbol of ancient separations and scars. Windows open onto memories, fragments of history. Four characters embody the past, the present, the future and the transitional state. Combining narrative, music and song, the piece draws on the chronicles of a fractured country, criss-crossed by the dramas, the wounds of colonialism and lost illusions. But it does not fail to remember also the power of shared joy, in order to present new poetic imaginations.
